Empowering Local Media: The Sungava Television Story

A Partnership Forged in a Remote Province

Since 2015, Khim Budha and his team at Sungava TV have been operating from Karnali, one of the most remote provinces in the country. This location presented limited learning and business opportunities, but a two-and-a-half-year collaboration with PARC marked a significant turning point.

"We have learned a good amount of technical knowledge and skills, achieved trust from the audience, and developed business opportunities from this partnership."

The Ripple Effect of Quality Content

The collaboration's impact became clear when Sungava TV began broadcasting social media messages produced by PARC for USAID's Tayar Nepal project. The station received a significant amount of positive feedback from the community on phone calls and social media. Mr. Budha notes that working on projects like the Dhukka series helped his team learn how to produce messages on important but often neglected subjects.

From Learning to Leading: Creating New Opportunities

This enhanced capacity has translated into tangible growth. Sungava Television secured an opportunity to produce five social media messages for the Internal Affairs and Law Ministry of Karnali Province, with the ministry expressing excitement to continue the collaboration. Further projects with the Chief Minister's Office and the traffic police office have followed. As Mr. Budha concludes, "The volume of the work is not so big but this has shown us the good possibilities to work in collaboration with other organizations in the future."
