Collaboration with National Information Commission

A Partnership to Promote the Right to Information (RTI)

PARC provided crucial communication support to the National Information Commission (NIC) as part of the Civil Society and Media (CSM) Project, which was funded by USAID and managed by The Asia Foundation. The collaboration focused on producing a wide range of informational materials to protect, promote, and practice the Right to Information in Nepal.

Developing Key Knowledge Products

A significant part of the project involved creating a suite of knowledge products. PARC provided technical and editorial support for the publication of the Commission's quarterly bulletin, 'Suchana Mero Adhikar,' and its English version, 'Information My Right.' Other key publications included:

  • 'A Handbook for Information Seekers' and 'A Handbook for Public Bodies,' translated into four local languages (Maithili, Bhojpuri, Awadhi, and Tharu) for accessibility.
  • The Commission's introductory booklet, 'NIC Introduction Booklet.'
  • The Commission's annual journal, 'A Journal of RTI,' and a comprehensive 'Decisions Collection' book.
  • A collection of articles titled 'Right to Information: Success Stories.'

Multimedia Outreach and Engagement

To enhance engagement and reach local speakers in the Terai-Madhesh region, PARC created a variety of audio-visual materials. This included three radio messages and three video messages, produced in Nepali and localized in Maithili, Bhojpuri, Tharu, and Awadhi. To maximize impact, these productions featured collaborations with renowned artists and prominent figures, such as popular artist Prakash Saput. Furthermore, PARC produced a full-length documentary titled 'सूचनाको हकको शक्ति' (The Power of Right to Information) to showcase the importance of RTI in empowering citizens.
