Landslides in Nepal
Landslides
By PARC July 17, 2024Nepal experiences significant floods during the monsoon season, which typically runs from June to September. The monsoon brings heavy rainfall, especially in the southern plains and the foothills of the Himalayas. This deluge causes rivers to swell and often overflow their banks, leading to widespread flooding. The inundation impacts agricultural lands, disrupts transportation, and can cause substantial damage to infrastructure and homes. The topography of Nepal, with its steep slopes and fragile soil, exacerbates the situation, making landslides a common occurrence alongside floods. These natural disasters pose severe challenges to the country, affecting livelihoods, public health, and the overall economy.
